Forget parking! It’s time for a brand experience.

There’s a terrific article in the WSJ on high-end garages in Miami, designed by world-famous “starchitects,” that are being used as spaces for over-the-top events and experiences. Check out their slideshow and video.

This rendering shows what the interior of Zaha Hadid’s 23rd Street garage might look like:

Yesterday our Brand Marketing team got the chance to experience MoMA’s new exhibition, “Talk to Me”. The new exhibition dives into design and the communication between people and objects:

The exhibition focuses on objects that involve a direct interaction, such as interfaces, information systems, visualization design, and communication devices, and on projects that establish an emotional, sensual, or intellectual connection with their users.

If you happen to live in NYC or plan to visit soon, I would definitely recommend stopping at the MoMA before November 7th!

Here’s a glimpse of my favorite examples from “Talk to Me”:

1. Eyewriter It is a low-cost eye-tracking apparatus & custom software that allows graffiti writers and artists with paralysis to draw using only their eyes

2. Touch HearBy touching a word or phrase, one can listen to its pronunciation or its meaning. The gadget whispers the missing information into the ear, without interrupting the flow of reading

3. Situationist App - iPhone app that alerts members to each other’s proximity and get them to interact in random situations

4. Phantom RecorderConceptual medical device that re-imagines phantom limb sensations as nostalgic memories

5. Artificial Biological ClockAn object that recieves information from her doctor, therapist and bank manager and alerts her when she is physicallly, mentally and economically ready to start a family

Today Jack Morton’s Boston office hosted Brand Camp, giving college students and recent graduates an in depth look at experience brands and working at an agency.  One of the concepts that captured the imagination of several attendees that I spoke with was owned media.  This fantastic example of owned media is for all my new Brand Camp friends.  Now go dream up your own.

Here in the NY design studio, we love infographics! Every Powerpoint loving presenter has at least dabbled with the chart and graph tool. When done effectively, they are elegant ways to visualize complex ideas and information.
What better way to illustrate this point than making something as complex as the United Stated Annual Budget visually interesting, interactive and informative. Our hats are off to Anil Kandangath for creating Where Did My Tax Dollars Go. Here are some other infographics that inspire us:

Reinventing US/Mexican Border Fence Through Design

I recently came across a very inspiring video about the redesigning of the Mexican border from UC Berkeley. In this video, Ron Rael presents so many new ideas as to how the Mexican border fence can be used to positively impact the American & Mexican communities. Ron shares proposals that include solar energy collection, water purifiers/filtration systems, bi-national libraries, waste water treatment plants and even a BURRITO WALL!

This is a great example that shows how design can transform communities and can actually have a positive impact in immigration reform.

“The wall isn’t seen as a divider, but as the facilitator for exchange…”

Karl Lagerfeld, the noted German fashion designer, creates 3 new Diet Coke bottle designs- just in time for the Summer! After Mr. Langerfeld reportedly lost 90 lbs. in 2001 on his Diet Coke and steamed vegetables diet, it seems that Coca Cola is mirroring both Weight Watchers & SUBWAY with their ”fit” brand ambassadors!

Traditional Woodwork Meets Skateboard Design

This woodwork skateboard creation was discovered by German artist, Tobias Megerle in Mumbai. The Skateboards are now being showcased at THE LOFT at Lower Parel, a Contemporary Art Space.

I love the level of creativity and authenticity of these woodcarvers!
